DAY 1

Depending on what time you arrive in Edinburgh, you can spend some time exploring this beautiful city before heading to your accommodation located in the south of the city near Arthurs Seat, a dormant volcano located in the 640 acre Royal Holyrood Park giving excellent views of the city.

Accommodation

5* Boutique Hotel – 1 night (includes exclusive traditional dinner and show)

Your accommodation for the first night is in one of Edinburgh’s most exciting hotels. Built in 1687 as the grand baroque home of Edinburgh's Lord Provost, it is now Edinburgh's most luxurious 5-star hotel. Your package will include an exclusive evening dinner show. This exceptional traditional dinner and show is a feast of traditional Scottish music, song, dance and legend. A four-course dinner featuring Scottish beef and seafood includes wine and an opportunity to taste the traditional Scottish delicacy – haggis!

DAY 2

Edinburgh – Kelso (Scottish Borders)

Distance: 48 miles - Travel time: 1 hr 30 mins

You will drive south from Edinburgh through tranquil hills and into the heart of the beautiful Scottish Borders, just south of Kelso. The Borders is an outstanding natural playground, which offers a fantastic array of outdoor pursuits and has sparked the imaginations of many writers and artists. The area has a rich culture and history and produces some exceptional local produce.

4* Country House Hotel – 2 nights (includes dinner one night)

Your accommodation, owned by the Duke of Roxburgh, is a beautiful 4 star country house hotel with championship golf course. There as an award winning restaurant and the hotel is a true home from home with character and individuality throughout. As part of your hotel stay, you will have complimentary access to the magnificent Floors Castle a short drive from the hotel on the banks of the river Tweed. Floors is the largest inhabited castle in Scotland with a priceless collection of European paintings and tapestries.

On leaving Edinburgh you will pass near the famous Rosslyn Chapel, built in 1446 and one of Scotland’s most remarkable buildings, and famous for its part in the film "The Davinci Code". You will also pass Arniston House, a Palladian style mansion house set in acres of beautiful parkland, and we can organise a private tour if this is of interest.

During your stay at the hotel, various activities such as salmon fishing on the river Tweed, clay pigeon shooting and golf can be organized as part of your holiday itinerary. There are also numerous beautiful woodland walks around the hotel.

You can follow in the footsteps of Sir Walter Scott, one of Scotland’s greatest writers, and discover his ancestral home at Abbotsford, near Melrose.
The Borders’ Abbeys are four great monastic ruins and beautiful monuments to the regions turbulent past which are also well worth a visit.

DAY 4

Kelso – Biggar

Distance: 47 miles - Travel time: 1 hr 35 mins

You will head west from Kelso, following the majestic river Tweed up towards its source to Stobo Castle, nestled among some of Scotland’s beautiful Borders countryside.

5* Health Spa and Hotel – 2 nights (all meals included)

The magical Stobo Castle Health Spa is Scotland’s only destination Spa. It sits in a tranquil setting on a hill amongst rolling grounds, shaded by trees and set around a picturesque loch. You will be spoiled at this most indulgent of hotels.

You may just want to spend the day being pampered or just relaxing and enjoying the fantastic spa facilities. You can explore the village of Biggar, a historic town on the northern edge of the Southern Uplands. A royal burgh since 1451, Biggar still retains its medieval layout. The main street is lined with centuries-old houses and the Kirk dates from the 16th century. Biggar has associations with various historical figures, including William Wallace and Bonnie Prince Charlie. Nearby the popular walk up Tinto Hill gives commanding views over the Clyde Valley.

DAY 6

Biggar – Edinburgh/Glasgow

Distance: 32 miles - Travel time: 1 hr

You will have a relatively short drive heading north east back to Edinburgh and your rental car drop off can be flexible depending on whether you need to get to the airport or to Edinburgh train station. This itinerary can also finish in Glasgow if preferred.
